Our new topic for Autumn 2 is ‘Let’s Celebrate’. This was great timing because this week it was Diwali the Hindu festival of light. This is a beautiful celebration full of colours and patterns. The children found it very interesting learning about how people from around the world celebrate Diwali. This is a celebration the children had never heard of so they enjoyed learning lots of new information. The classroom was set up with some fantastic activities for the children to access and learn from. We had a lovely Diwali interest table set up with interesting photos and artefacts. As Diwali is the festival of light we all made Diya lamps using salt dough. We will decorate them once they have dried.
We had lots of fun making beautiful Rangoli patterns using coloured sand and stones.
We talked about the food that would be shared during Diwali celebrations and then we tasted some of them. It was fantastic to see the children taste food they had never even heard of before. They particularly liked the paratha bread and the poppadoms.
We read a lovely story The Best Ever Diwali. What a special celebration day we have had.
