This week we have been talking about the special people in our lives, our family. The children shared special family photos to share and discuss. We will display these on our family tree in the classroom. We have had a lovely time learning about each other’s’ families. We learnt that all families are different and all very special. We have also been talking about where we live and what makes our homes so special to us. The children made some lovely drawings of their family members. The children talked about what made their house special and what they liked to do at their house.
We read the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’. In the story the pigs used different materials to build their houses. We also used different materials to build houses. We tested the strength of the houses by pretending to be the Big Bad Wolf and blowing the houses down. We found out which houses were the strongest as they were still standing.
We re-enacted the story and the children were so good at remembering what the characters said in the story.
We also have been learning about 2D shapes this week. We have been playing lots of games to help us learn about shapes such as square, circle, triangle and rectangle. We played shapes in a bag, shape monsters and we went on a hunt around the school looking for 2D shapes. We then used 2D shapes to make a house shape. The children decided what shape door and windows they would use for their house.
