To begin our topic ‘Marvellous Me and My Family tree’ we have been getting to know each other, talking about what makes us special. We have been finding out what makes us unique, such as our interests and hobbies. We have been making some fantastic self-portraits, using mirrors to see what colour eyes, hair and skin we have. We have been using natural materials to make faces too, identifying facial features and the position of them on our faces. Our fingerprints are completely unique to us, each one different just like us, so we made some beautiful rainbow handprints to display in the classroom.

We read a fantastic story called the Colour Monster. In the story, the monster turns different colours depending on how he is feeling and sometimes his feelings were all mixed up and he was rainbow coloured. We talked a lot about different feelings and emotions and how our feelings and emotions can change throughout the day, this is very normal. We now have a feelings chart in our classroom so that each morning we can discuss how we are feeling. We made our own amazing colour monsters using various creative materials and resources. We can’t wait to display them in the classroom. It is really important to recognize how you are feeling so that you can get help if you need it and also understand how you can help yourself to feel happy too.

We also talked about where in our bodies we might feel these emotions. We drew around one of our class friends and then labelled the parts of the body. We discussed how and where we might feel these emotions in our body, using the colours from the Colour Monster story to show each emotion.
