This week we have been learning about our senses. We talked about which parts of our body we use for our senses- touch, smell, sight, sound and taste. Mr Potato Head helped us with this.
On Monday, we explored our sense of touch. We used a feely box, where we hid items inside and we had to guess what the items were using our sense of touch. We had to feel and describe the items using words such as smooth, rough, long, spiky, bumpy, soft, fluffy etc. We used sensory trays filled with different textures to explore such as shaving foam, pasta, rice and cornflour. It was very messy but lots of fun.
On Tuesday, we explored our sense of smell. Different food items had been put into tubes for us to smell. We could not see what they were so we had to use our sense of smell to guess what they were. Some of them were very smelly. We made our own perfume using flowers, herbs and spices.
On Wednesday, we explored our sense of taste. We tasted lots of different foods and decided which ones we liked and didn’t like. We used words to describe the taste such as sweet, juicy, sour. We liked the taste of the chocolate best.
On Thursday, we explored our sense of sound. We played lots of different instruments to listen to the different sounds they make. Then we played a game to really test our sense of hearing. We had to listen really carefully to an instrument that was hidden in a box. We could not see it so we had to guess which instrument was being played only using our sense of hearing. We even made our own music makers.
On Friday we went explored our sense of sight by playing games of Ispy, using our sense of sight to help us think of clues about the objects and then finding them.
Learning about our senses is fun.
