Today - our second day in the wilderness - after a hearty breakfast, we took on the challenge of our lives... A STRENUOUS MOUNTAIN CLIMB!

Group one (alongside Mrs H) hiked through the valleys behind Skiddaw, eventually climbing, and reaching, the summit of High Pike. Meanwhile, group 2 (alongside Mrs V) hiked up Wallacragg, also successfully reaching the summit of the mountain. Some found this easier than others; however, each and every one of us discovered the same thing: it took resilience, positivity, trust and... A LOT of energy!

We all stopped at various points on our trip: to rest, to eat, to drink our hot chocolate and to take in the most glorious views. We explored the wonderful environments that we were so lucky to be in and we are happy to say that the weather remained on our side (thankfully)!

Here are some comments from the children themselves about their experience today:

"I thought it was easier to climb down the mountain than up it. Top tip - watch where you step or you will fall!" - Kayla, Y6.

When faced with the challenge of climbing the final stretch, one child encouraged another, saying, "Today is another day to excel!" - Holly, Y6.

"My advice? If a rock is black and looks slippery - it most likely is! I learned this from experience!" - Jennifer, Y6.

"The more times you stop, the harder it is to continue - you may think you have reached the top, but if there is higher land around, you have not." - Davina, Y6.

"It was tiring but I really enjoyed it - the view was spectacular!" - Scarlett, Y5.

"The weather changed constantly so it was important to have lots of layers at hand. I was so happy yet exhausted when I finally reached the top!" - Logan, Y5.

A note from us (Mrs H & Mrs V): "The children were amazing! Although some found the climb and descent daunting and draining, they showed grit and determination and remained resilient throughout, celebrating their success at the summit and back on the bus!"

One of the most important and valuable things we learnt and ensured that we followed today was the Countryside Code - RESPECT, PROTECT & ENJOY - along with a very thoughtful and important quote that our instructor shared with us:

'Only leave a footprint and take nothing more than a photograph and your beautiful memories.'

What a challenging yet enjoyable day we have had! After a nice, warm shower, we had a scrumptious tea before staying in the centre for the night and playing some fun team games, where we worked together as well as competing against one another in some side-splitting, belly-laughing challenges.

We'll check back in tomorrow, it's snack time!

Goodnight from Y5/6, Mrs Huntingdon & Mrs Vernon :)
