Harvest Festival

Our school council organised a food bank collection and we were inundated by donations from our generous school community.  A huge thank you to all of the families who contributed.  The donations created a grand total of 52 meals for families in the local community.

We held our annual Harvest Festival Assembly, singing our favourite harvest songs and celebrating the abundance of food that is available to us.  We also thanked the people who work hard to harvest food and make it available to us in the different ways.  We also thought about people who may not have as much food as us, around the world and in our local community.  Huge thanks went to the pupils who had shared their food donations.

Representatives of the school council helped to deliver our food bank donations to the local collection centre.  We were able to see how the donations were weighed, dated, sorted and processed in order to get to the people who need it.  We learned more about the wide variety of people who used the food banks in Sunderland and why food banks were so necessary.  Jo, the food bank co-ordinator, told us about her job and her pathway into this career.  We also met some of the volunteers and found out more about how they helped with their time and energy.  Pupils were able to ask lots of questions and came back to school to share all of the information they had learned with the rest of the school in the following assembly.
