Key Stage 2 took part in some excellent workshops with Suzie, from Dogs Trust. Suzie visited the classes to share information about dogs and how to interact safely with them. The children became detectives and investigated what happened to Tom, an eight-year-old boy, who as bitten by a dog. The children looked at all of the dogs and their breeds. Quickly, the children made initial predictions about which dog it could have been. Suzie gave the children a pack of evidence with scenarios, which Tom was in with the different dogs. It was really interesting to work with Suzie, learning about about how to stay safe around dogs.

Things the children learned during the sessions:

· Leave a dog to eat alone – never touch a dog that’s eating

· Stroke a dog to show that you care- don’t hug

· Always ask permission to stroke a dog

· Allow sleeping dogs to sleep – don’t touch them

· Stay still if a dog is approaching you – if you run, it may want to catch you
