Boys and girls in Year Two have been learning about the coal mining history of Hetton.
Children found out about life in a coal mine by exploring artifacts belonging to a real ex-miner! They tried on a hard hat - with battery head lamp, knee pads and got to see how heavy a Davy lamp was. They also examined an ornamental sculpture of a tub which was used to transport coal underground.. Everyone agreed that life down a mine was pretty tough.
