Our school was lucky to receive a visit from an author - Richard O'Neill.

In Year 4, he shared his process of writing.  He had a very messy notebook, from Home Bargains (nothing fancy), and in here, her wrote down all of his ideas.

He then writes a second draft - this makes it easier to type up on his laptop.  From here, it's then sent to publishers and becomes a book.  You can see this on one of the photos - 'Halle got a hammer'. He shared that it's important to listen to people's advice when writing.  This book, Halle got a hammer, was changed to Halle had a hammer because a friend suggested he make the title alliterative.

Also, he suggested for us to start with an ending of a story and workout the rest of the story from there.  Some children in Year 4 went home and wrote their own stories like this.

It's great to see children enjoying writing in and out of school.
