Hetton Town Council members, local church ministers and residents this week joined together to mark the 70th anniversary of the Eppleton Colliery explosion which killed 9 workers on 6th July 1951.

A commemorative service was held at Eppleton Pit Wheel Memorial at Hetton Lyons Country Park. The service culminated in Frankie and Lily laying a wreath in a touching tribute.

It is always an honour to be invited to community events but something as meaningful as the Eppleton mining disaster commemoration is particularly important as it provides children with opportunities to learn about their local history.
