Anglo-Saxon Art Project


We have been creating some Anglo-Saxon inspired artwork. We looked at pictures of artefacts that were from the Anglo-Saxon era and how they were decorated. We then looked at a more modern artist who creates patterns using tessellation. We designed and created small, decorative shields or broaches.  We made them out of air-drying clay using a range of clay tools. We used brushes, craft knives and dowelling to create our designs. We then learned about the properties of acrylic paint; we learned about its consistency, that it is used for a range of materials rather than paper and also that it is waterproof. We used our design sheets and also our knowledge of Anglo-Saxon artefacts to paint our clay art work. We also learned about the importance of choosing the correct brush size and thickness in order to be accurate and neat when we are painting.  Here are some photos of us in action:
