This week we analysed an oil painting by John Singer Sargent which depicts the aftermath of a mustard gas attack during the First World War.
We noticed that in the painting some soldiers have their eyes bandaged as a result of exposure to gas and they held onto the shoulder of the soldier in front to help guide their way to receive medical attention. The children were fascinated by the painting and spent some time discussing their ideas about what they could see before heading outside to recreate the image.
