Today we had a visitor from the Groundwork organisation, which supports Coalfields schools in looking after their local green spaces.

We talked about how a green space is an area that you might visit or play in., it contains important plants, wildlife and habitats that should be looked after.

We discussed the impact rubbish can have on these important green spaces and how damaging this can be for wildlife and the environment.

We then headed out to our school field armed with litter pickers, gloves and bags and collected rubbish that was ruining our green space.

Once back in school we found out that not all rubbish that can;t be recycled goes to landfill, lots of rubbish from the North East is taken to factories in Teesside where it is burnt and used to generate power.

We think it's a much better idea to dispose of your rubbish appropriately in order to protect and look after our important green spaces!
