Beamish
Year 6 went on a trip to Beamish. We walked to the Town and did a workshop (which was related to our novel, A Christmas Carol). We were immediately involved in role play, where we talked to a witness of the death of a man in the park that morning. He told us to go round the town and collect money for the poor so this would never happen again. Some characters did not donate, but we tried to persuade them but they were too selfish. We did have some nice characters but Scrooge himself did not give a single penny!
After lunch, we went to a coal mine. We were given hard hats by a worker (who had worked in Eppleton Pit) who went down the mine with us. They told us a lot of information: they used to work for at least 8 hours, the height of the mine got to at least four foot six and the lighting was not very good so this is why the Davy and Stephenson lamps were invented.
We had a great time at Beamish and learned lots of things!
