D&T - STEADY HAND GAMES

We started the unit by researching toys that help to develop children's fine and gross motor skills. Before starting our Steady Hand Game design, we discussed the importance of function over form (if a product doesn't work and isn't fit for purpose then it doesn't really matter what it looks like).

We started by creating a design criteria (a list of steps that we had to follow in order to be successful and create a product fit for purpose), then we looked at what we would need for the electrical circuit part of the game, which meant retrieving our prior scientific electrical knowledge. We then ensured we had put together a working circuit before we designed our base and backboard from different angles & then our game wire. Next, we created our own cuboid nets, cut them out and hot glued our structures together, before adding the wire, handle and circuit to complete the game.

It was then time to test our products - Y4 even had a go, and it was nice to see other children in school enjoying our products - they were very successful and definitely fit for purpose following testing and evaluation!
